Common questions

Everything you might reasonably want to know.

When exactly does Datenooks launch?

We're targeting summer 2026 across New York's Capital Region — Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga, Lake George, the Catskills, and the Adirondacks. Launch list subscribers get a full two weeks of priority booking before the public opens.

How much does an evening cost?

Sample listings on this page range from $45 to $420 per evening. The average guest booking is around $165. Space-only nooks start under $100. Chef- and waiter-included nooks cost more because real food and real service aren't cheap. Prices are fully transparent upfront, with a small cleaning fee and no hidden service charges.

Do I need to bring anything?

Each listing spells out exactly what's included and what you should bring. Space-only nooks mean you bring your own food and wine. Chef-included nooks mean you bring yourselves. Weather-proof nooks include rain plans. Nothing is left to guesswork.

How long is a booking?

Most nooks are three-hour evening windows, typically 5–8 PM or 6–9 PM. Some four-hour windows exist for longer dinners or stargazing. The default path is: you arrive, you have the evening, you go home together. Datenooks is not lodging — we never own beds, mattresses, or keys.

Can I stay overnight? (The honest answer.)

Not inside anything we own — Datenooks doesn't do beds, doors-that-lock, or check-in desks. But some hosts opt into Stay on the land: a non-structural overnight add-on on the same property where your evening happens. Think a tent on the meadow where you had your picnic, your car in the orchard where you watched the stars, a three-sided lean-to by the fire circle you already booked, or a self-contained RV parked in the field. You'll see a 🏕 Stay OK chip on any listing that offers it, and there's a dedicated "Stay on the land" section on the listing detail with the price, what's included (toilet, water, fire pit, etc.), and house rules. If you want an actual bed with a real door, book a hotel or Airbnb nearby — Datenooks is the evening, not the sleep.

What if it rains?

Every Datenooks listing is required to have a rain plan — a covered space nearby with the same setup. Weather moves are always free. If the rain plan isn't acceptable, you get a full refund, no argument.

How do I know the host won't hover?

Every host picks a presence mode upfront: "Just the space — fully alone," "Alone, host on-call," or "Alone with a chef or waiter." The mode is printed on the listing card and enforced by policy. If a host violates their mode, you get a full refund and a $50 credit.

Is my information private?

The host never sees your exact phone number or email. The host's exact address is only shared with you two hours before your arrival. ID verification happens on both sides. We don't sell data and don't run third-party ad trackers.

I have a beautiful place. How do I list it?

Apply to be a founding host above. Founding hosts get $250 in booking credits to use as guests themselves, zero platform fees for the first full year, priority placement, and full host protection insurance on every booking.

Dating, evolved.

No swiping. No strangers across a table. No choosing between the same three restaurants. Just somewhere beautiful, for one night, and then you go home together.

Datenooks is for nights that deserve more than a restaurant — whenever two people want the evening itself to be the thing they remember.

About the founding dater

Hi, I'm Chad.

My wife Lisa and I have been married for over 30 years. Every date with her is fun — she's a saint and the love of my life — but after three decades together, it gets hard to find something that breaks the mold. For our 30th anniversary I went looking for something special enough to reward her for putting up with me all these years, and I came up empty. Nothing out there felt new.

Then one afternoon I was driving past a field with an old barn and a view that stopped me. I thought, I want to bring her here for a picnic. But I didn't know who owned the land, and I certainly wasn't about to just do it anyway.

Around the same time, after decades of working on our own property, friends kept telling us how much they'd love to have dinner in our orangery, surrounded by the wildflower gardens. And I thought — they could. I could cook for them. I love to cook for people. That would be a blast.

"I can only have four hot burner projects — two in the front, two in the back. Everything else has to simmer in the crockpot. This idea has been simmering for a long time."

I already have a career, so this started as a hobby that wouldn't let go. Finally I decided I'd just start working on it and see if anyone else thought it was as cool an idea as I do. If you think it would be fun to have awesome date nights — or if you have a beautiful place you'd love to share for an evening — I hope you'll join our community.

A backyard, a dock, a rooftop, a meadow, a barn. We'll reach out warmly — no pressure, no spam. If they become a founding host, you get a $50 booking credit at launch.

Refer a dater

Know a couple who'd love this?

Anniversary coming up? A friend complaining they're bored of every restaurant? Put them on the launch list. They get Founding Dater perks, and you both get a $25 booking credit when we open.

No cold emails, no mass marketing. We introduce ourselves and leave the door open. Referrals are the only way 90% of you heard about us anyway — might as well make it official.

Referral credits are promotional, no cash value, apply to Datenooks fees only, and are earned only for referrals confirmed before the Founding Dater (250) and Founding Host (100) cohorts fill. Once either cohort is full, referrals of that type stop earning credit. Self-referrals disallowed. Total founder credits capped at $500 per person. Full terms →
